I was born in 1958 in Aberdeen, Scotland and was raised in a small village on the outskirts of the City on the edge of the River Dee. Upon marriage, I moved into the city of Aberdeen where I worked predominantly in business and raised my children.
In 1993 I returned to full time education as a mature student and graduated in 1997 with an MA Hons Psychology. I have been teaching ever since.
In 1999, I embarked on a journey 3000 miles across the Atlantic to visit a sick friend (Roger) who I ended up marrying and so a new chapter in my life began.
My move from Aberdeen to the boonies of New Hampshire took quite a bit of adjustment. I had not expected to experience the level of cultural shock that I did. After living here 9 years now (2008) I feel I still not have entirely adjusted to the isolation of living in the New Hampshire woods. I had always expressed myself artistically in some form or another, whether it was home décor, flower arrangement or writing poetry, but I did not find my true artistic nature until I came to New Hampshire. The enforced isolation led me to explore new avenues to fill some of the voids moving had created in my life. In 2002 I fell accidentally into graphic design and discovered an intense passion for this field. In 2003 I began experimenting with fantasy art using my mouse, as you can imagine not an easy task. I faired reasonably well but it was not until I acquired my Wacom drawing tablet that I really began to develop as a fantasy artist.
Due to work and study commitments early 2004 I took a hiatus from creating fantasy art. I was able to return to it mid 2005 and have continued to develop my skills as an artist. I would say that 2005 was really the year I began to flourish as an artist and I look forward to continuing this wonderful and personally rewarding journey.
This year (2008) I decided to create my own website, originally to showcase my fantasy art and products created using my art but after much deliberation (and the advice of a good and cherished friend - thank you Denise ~smiles~) I decided to focus on offering fantasy art graphics for both personal and commercial use for compositional artists and designers who focus on this genre. I may at some future point expand the site to include my tangible art products (although this greatly depends on time, which is in short supply these days).
I classify myself as a mixed medium artist. In addition to digital painting I also work with photo manipulations and 3D elements from time to time.
I have been inspired and influenced by many artists upon this journey, too many to mention here (although I may add to this at a later date). I guess my biggest influence has been my family who continue to encourage and support me in my work and who accept me for all of my little idiosyncrasies!
Thank you to my husband, Roger and to my young adults Jim, Jeff & Kate & their daughter (my darling grand daughter) Kaylee, here in the US – I think you know how much I love and adore you all. Thank you also to my young adult Russell in the UK – I love you and miss you! |
